      Detailed Description

Medium ruby-red in color, the dark-fruits on the nose have a dusty character. On the palate, bright red-fruits also have a dusty note. The structure is of mid-weight, but the tannins are quite supple. Alcohol is in balance & the finish is relatively short. The wine is fairly well-balanced, but not exceptional.

        Producer Information

Château de Camensac is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Haut-Médoc region, just over the border from Saint-Julien. In classic Bordeaux tradition, the estate portfolio boasts two wines: the eponymous Château Camensac and a second wine, La Closerie de Camensac. The estate has around 172 acres (70ha) of vines with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted. Vineyards are largely continguous; the railway line divides the main blocks from the "Lagrange" plots, which are adjacent to Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien. Soils are predominantly gravel (with a zone of sandy gravel) and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon; areas of chalky clay around the borders of the property are where most of the Merlot blocks are situated. Harvest is undertaken manually and, after sorting, fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks. After blending, the grand vin is aged for 17 to 20 months in French oak barriques, of which around 40 percent are new. Château Camensac was acquired in 2005 by the Merlaut family (well-known Bordeaux négociants who also own châteaux Chasse-Spleen and Gruaud-Larose). It had previously been owned by the Rioja-based Forner family of Marqués de Cáceres fame.
