This could be the most authentic, old-school Mezcal we’ve ever tasted… and it’s really good.

Ron Cooper of Taos, New Mexico, loves Mezcal. He loves everything about it from the choice agave plants used to the local "palenques" (distilleries) brewing up this sacred elixir. "Maguey" is the Aztec word for "agave." So he established Del Maguey, spending his days searching the back roads of Mexico to discover the small family-farm distilleries making Mezcal with local flair. He bottles up their local Spirits and sells these artisanal releases to a grateful public.

Del Maguey Arroqueño Mezcal is a very limited release from Santa Catarina Minas — a tiny municipality in a mountain valley pass in south-central Oaxaca. It’s made from rare, semi-wild Arroqueño agave that are hand-harvested and slow-roasted over stone in a covered earthen pit for three days and mashed with wooden sticks. It’s fermented naturally with air-born yeasts for thirty days and twice distilled in a hand-formed clay still using bamboo tubing (!) and cut to 49% ABV with local spring water to yield just 360 bottles.

It just does NOT get any more authentic than that.
