As with all the Old Perth range, this whisky is fully matured in sherry casks. This particular release is the annual limited edition for 2024, and has been aged in Manzanilla sherry casks.
Manzanilla sherry is a type of fino sherry exclusively produced in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain, known for its dry, light body and distinctive salty tang. Aged under a layer of yeast called "flor" in the unique coastal microclimate, Manzanilla tpyically features notes of almonds, green apples, chamomile, and herbs. Its unique production and character make Manzanilla a very elegant sherry.
And its not a cask one often sees used, so this release from Old Perth is a nice treat. Scotch whisky aged in Manzanilla sherry casks combines the richer character of Scotch with the delicate, salty tang of Manzanilla sherry. These whiskies typically have subtle notes of green apple, chamomile, and a distinct maritime salinity, enhancing the complexity and depth of the spirit.
